Son Heung-min Honored With Special Jersey After Becoming South Korea’s Most-Capped Player
LAFC star Son Heung-min received a commemorative jersey from the Korea Football Association (KFA) ahead of South Korea’s friendly against Paraguay, marking a historic milestone in his illustrious international career.
The 33-year-old forward officially became South Korea’s all-time appearance leader during the October international window, making his 137th cap in a match against Brazil. The feat saw him surpass both his current national team coach Hong Myung-bo and legendary striker Cha Bum-kun, who each finished with 136 caps.
Four days later, in front of a packed Seoul World Cup Stadium, Son was honored with a special kit displaying his record-breaking achievement. The KFA also showcased a tribute video highlighting some of the finest moments from the captain’s 14-year national team journey.
South Korea’s All-Time Appearance Leaders

| T-2 | Cha Bum-kun | 136 |

| 5 | Lee Young-pyo | 127 |
Son, who debuted for the national team in 2010 at just 18 years old, has now tallied 138 appearances and 53 goals for South Korea. Although he didn’t score in Tuesday’s celebratory match, his teammates delivered a 2–0 win over Paraguay, who had recently held Japan to a draw.
Son Returns to LAFC for MLS Cup Push
After completing international duty, Son is set to rejoin Los Angeles FC, where he has been in impressive form since his August move to MLS. The former Tottenham Hotspur star has recorded eight goals and three assists in league play, helping LAFC climb to third place in the Western Conference.
LAFC will wrap up their regular season on Saturday, October 18, against the Colorado Rapids before entering the MLS Cup playoffs. Under Steve Cherundolo, the team has lost only two of their last 11 matches, with one of those defeats occurring during Son’s absence.
As LAFC aims for their second MLS Cup title, Son’s return could provide the spark the Black and Gold need to finish the season strong and lift the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy.
