The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has issued a stern warning to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), threatening to mobilise party supporters across the country in resistance if the government proceeds with what he describes as an unlawful attempt to arrest Assin South Member of Parliament, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Mr. Mustapha accused the government of using state institutions to intimidate opposition figures, particularly those who have spoken out against what they claim are irregularities involving high-ranking officials.
He alleged that plans to arrest Rev. Ntim Fordjour are politically motivated and part of a broader scheme to silence dissenting voices within the opposition.
“We will not sit idly by and watch this government abuse power. If the NDC continues with this reckless political witch-hunt, we will mobilise the youth, we will rise, and we will make this country ungovernable,” he declared.
Mr. Mustapha further stressed that the NPP youth wing remains committed to defending democracy, justice, and the rights of its members. He warned that any further harassment of opposition MPs or party members would be met with a vigorous response.
“The NDC should understand that this country is not a dictatorship. The use of state security agencies to carry out political vendettas will not be tolerated,” he added.
This statement comes in the wake of growing controversy surrounding a reported attempted arrest of Rev. Ntim Fordjour by operatives of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), which has already sparked significant political backlash.
Mr. Mustapha called on civil society, religious leaders, and the international community to intervene and hold the government accountable before tensions escalate further.
“The peace of this country must not be taken for granted. The NDC must act responsibly or face the consequences of its actions,” he concluded.
