NPP Denies Claims of Bias in Upcoming Presidential Primaries – Justin Kodua

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has dismissed allegations that the party’s upcoming presidential primaries are being manipulated to favour former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia or any specific aspirant.

Concerns have been raised by some party members and observers following the announcement that the primaries will be held on January 31, 2026, a date approved by the party’s National Council after recommendations from the Constitution Review Committee.

In an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Wednesday, June 18, Kodua firmly rejected the claims, stating, “I would be very surprised if anyone thinks an election that hasn’t even been conducted is already skewed in favour of a particular candidate.”

He defended the party’s electoral framework, describing it as democratic and consistent. “If you look at our internal elections from as far back as 1992, 1996 to 2000, you’ll notice that in every cycle — from polling station to national level — about 70% to 80% of current executives are retained,” he noted.

Kodua further explained that the order of elections, whether from the polling station to national level or vice versa, has no bearing on the fairness of the process. “It doesn’t give anyone an undue advantage. Many current executives are likely to continue in their roles regardless of the sequence,” he said.

His comments are part of broader efforts by the NPP leadership to assure the party base and the public that its internal processes remain transparent and equitable as preparations intensify for the 2026 elections.
