Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has urged that officials at Tema Port and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) be held accountable for the disappearance of over 1,300 ECG containers containing vital equipment.

His call comes after shocking reports revealed that stolen ECG cables from the missing containers were found at aluminium smelting facilities in Shai-Osudoku. The cables had been melted into blocks and processed into aluminium rods for export.

Addressing Parliament on Friday, March 28, Ayariga emphasized the need for justice, expressing full support for a thorough investigation into the matter.

“Mr. Speaker, this country must change. I’m pleased that the Minister [of Energy and Green Transition] has committed to uncovering the truth. He has the full backing of this House to hold accountable all those involved—from the leadership of ECG to the management of Tema Port,” he stated.

Ayariga further called for scrutiny of companies that have been exporting aluminium products over the years, questioning their sources of raw materials.
