Former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, has urged his supporters to remain calm despite his $18 million defamation loss to investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Upon his arrival at Kotoka International Airport on March 27, Agyapong received a warm welcome and addressed the media, stating that such challenges are inevitable when advocating for the voiceless and standing for the truth.

“There’s no need to worry. Anyone who chooses to speak the truth and defend the voiceless will inevitably face such trials,” he asserted confidently.

He further emphasized that the legal battle had only reinforced his determination. “This experience has only made me stronger in my mission to fight for and protect the voiceless in our country.”

Agyapong also expressed deep appreciation for the overwhelming support shown to him and his wife upon their return. “I sincerely thank you all for the incredible welcome extended to me and my wife. Your support motivates me to continue my work.”

 Background

Anas Aremeyaw Anas filed a defamation lawsuit against Kennedy Agyapong in Essex County, New Jersey, following allegations made by the former MP in a 2021 interview.

Agyapong had accused Anas of criminal activities and linked him to the murder of journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale. The US court ruled in Anas’ favor, awarding him $18 million in damages, including $5 million in presumed damages, $5 million in actual damages, and $8 million in punitive damages.
