President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government will begin settling arrears owed to road contractors within this month. He made the disclosure during a meeting with members of the Council of State at the Jubilee House on Monday.
The President explained that the Ministry of Finance has made a dedicated budgetary allocation to clear a significant portion of the outstanding debts. This move, he noted, is intended to enable contractors to return to stalled construction sites and resume work on critical infrastructure projects.
“I believe some of the contractors working on your respective projects will soon receive payment, allowing them to go back on site and continue,” President Mahama stated.
He added that the Finance Minister is treating these payments as a priority within the government’s broader economic recovery plan, aimed at boosting productivity and accelerating project delivery across the country.
The President further indicated that more information on the payment arrangements will be outlined in the upcoming mid-year budget review, which will provide an update on the performance of the economy in the first half of the year.
He assured the Council of State that following the mid-year budget presentation, the government would engage them once again to evaluate its progress and performance over the past six months.
