Karen Baaba Sam, a Ghanaian woman locked in a prolonged custody dispute with her ex-partner, Nana Kwadwo Adjei, has filed a fresh petition to the Acting Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, alleging continued abuse and judicial bias.
In a detailed four-page petition dated July 1, 2025, Ms. Sam accused her former partner of subjecting her and their six-year-old daughter to years of physical, emotional, and psychological abuse. She claims this abuse is now being perpetuated through the legal system, allegedly with the help of certain judges.
Ms. Sam highlighted that despite filing an earlier petition on June 2 and receiving assurances of a prompt response, no action has been taken. She expressed concern over what she views as judicial complicity, pointing to rulings that she believes favor Mr. Adjei and undermine her legal rights.
Specifically, she cited Justice Kwasi Agyenim Boateng of the High Court (General Jurisdiction 1), who she alleges enabled Mr. Adjei to publish her image and make defamatory statements under the guise of court-sanctioned actions. According to her, this judge issued rapid orders allowing substituted service of a contempt application just minutes after it was filed—actions she claims lack legal justification.
Ms. Sam also claimed that judicial vehicles have been spotted at Mr. Adjei’s residence and that some judges have been threatened or influenced. She referenced over 15 legal cases related to the dispute currently pending in courts, stating that delays and questionable rulings have prolonged the litigation and jeopardized her daughter’s welfare.
She is calling on the Acting Chief Justice to:
Karen Baaba Sam ended her petition by stressing her fear for her and her daughter’s safety, urging the judiciary to uphold justice and protect her from further harm.
