Former government spokesperson Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah has revealed that at least 50 Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are now rallying behind Kennedy Ohene Agyapong as the preferred candidate to lead the party into the 2028 elections.
Speaking on Atumpan on AsaasePa 107.3 FM on Wednesday, Boakye-Danquah stated that internal assessments show Agyapong currently commands about 37% support from the party’s grassroots and is rapidly closing in on the numbers needed to secure the flagbearer slot.
“With just an additional 13%, he’ll cross the threshold,” Boakye-Danquah asserted. “There’s a noticeable shift—some MPs are moving away from the Vice President’s camp. While others like Bryan Acheampong and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum are also in the race, Kennedy Agyapong appears to be the one bringing MPs and the grassroots together.”
He emphasized that 50 NPP MPs have so far pledged their support for Agyapong, reinforcing the growing momentum behind his campaign.
The NPP is preparing to elect a new presidential candidate in 2026 following its loss in the 2024 general elections. Political analysts predict a highly competitive contest, with internal divisions and calls for renewed leadership shaping the race ahead.
